Cornerstone Orphanage
We are supporting an orphanage called CornerStone Home near Manaparai. The founder of this home, Isaac Arulappan is a Physics Graduate from St.Joseph College, Trichy. He is a native of Manaparai who lost his parents at the age of 10. He was raised by Boys Town brothers, a well known charity for abused and neglected children. After graduation, he worked in several educational Institutions, but his heart was always in Social service to his community. He quit is job as Vice Principal in a school and started this orphanage in his home town 12 years ago.
Isaac is married and has one son. His wife is working as a school teacher. He is earning his livelihood by working as a Project Officer in a Social Welfare project sponsored by a Canadian Agency.
The present strength of the Orphanage is 50 and 46 children find shelter and school with the help of SSA -RBC Residential Bridge course supported by the Department of School Eduation. our DKSHA RBC is the best and number one in Tamil Nadu.
And the first 4 children completed school education from our orphanage are now doing their graduation in Maths, IT, Polytechnic and Industrial Training.
GCTS members are supporting Cornerstone home by providing necessary funding for monthly food expenses. Members Kumar, Rajan, Vani and Shyam have taken the responsibility to make sure the benefits reach the kids. Rajan visited the orphanage last year and provided bedding material, books and dresses for the kids. He was moved by the happiness he saw in the kids' faces. Isaac needs support in the form of cash, material and volunteer hours. One of the arduous tasks for him is to teach the kids English. We seek help from our members who can give 15 minutes of their time to speak to a child. Apart from this, GCTS is planning to help Isaac to remodel his primitive Kitchen, build additional rest rooms and a library for the kids.
For any child, the criteria for joining CornerStone home, is that, the child should be either an orphan or a semi-orphan. If the parents of the child are both alive, there should have a compelling reason to get admission to the orphanage.
One of our goals is to identify specific talent among the children and to nurture and develop this talent. We have plans to identify world class athletes, scientists, artists and Engineers among these helpless kids and groom them. All of these take tremendous amount of efforts, time and team work.
We are thrilled by the kind of support we received from the member community recently.
Please use the Paypal "donate" button below if you wish to contribute. No amount is too small. Please contact us if you would like to setup a monthly or annual contribution. With your help, we will achieve our goals!
We will keep you posted regularly on the progress we make on these kids.
Thank you!
